Tips to Travel on the Cheap

When it comes time to plan a trip the cost can get really expensive. There are some websites and strategies that will help reduce the costs significantly and make traveling an affordable option. Try these sites to book your flights, accommodations, and chose some attractions.

Flights

Kayak– This website will compare the cost of all the airlines from the airport you’re departing from to the airport you’re looking to arrive. They will sort the tickets by price an will let you add filters like the number of stops, what time you’d like to take-off, and more. You can also view it to see if it would be cheaper to change the days you fly.

Skiplagged – This website finds loopholes in flight paths. Have you ever wondered why it can be cheaper to go further than where you need to go? Skiplagged will find the cheapest places to get to your final destination.

Airfarewatchdog- Will sort out cheap flights and they offer deals each day which could make an unexpected trip a reality!

Hopper- is a price tracking app. You can download the app and find out when it is the right time to buy your ticket. Airlines have algorithms that make prices rise and fall. Hopper uses their own wits against them so you can know the best time to buy your ticket!

Sign-up for the airlines credit card. When you purchase tickets through an airlines website, a lot of the time they will offer a pretty great deal for signing-up and using the card. They sometimes offer enough miles to pay for your next round-trip flight and will offer you a statement credit (money off your credit card statement) your first month.

Don’t skip the regional airlines. Everyone checks out the major airports and the major airlines but sometimes some regional airlines fly out at a much cheaper cost. Some regional airlines to start are Spirit Airlines, Allegiant Air, and Frontier. These airlines usually have much stricter luggage restrictions and offer fewer comforts but in turn, you keep a lot more money in your pocket.

Accommodations

Hotels are sliding out of style for the budget-savvy traveller. People who are looking to make a little money are opening up their homes on websites like Airbnb and VRBO. These can offer you much cheaper options than hotels. Another plus, they normally include a kitchen so you don’t have to spend money eating out for every meal.

Airbnb- Use these links to book your first airbnb and get a $20 credit.

VRBO- Very similar to Airbnb but seems to be a little less popular. Compare prices in the two locations and then decide where your family should stay!

Attractions

When it comes time to book some reservations and choose a restaurant, there is no reason to pay full price. Living Social and Groupon offer deals for restaurants, visit museums, visit spas and more. Before you head to your destination you should see what is being offered in your city!
